L’ORMA is proud to be part of SheCOACH, a new Erasmus+ project focused on promoting gender equality in basketball coaching and beyond. The initiative was officially launched with a kick-off meeting held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 9–10 April 2024, where the 9 partners from 7 countries gathered to coordinate the project’s start and future actions.

As an Italian organization committed to inclusive education through sport, L’ORMA will lead the development of the course on “Inclusive Language in Sports Environments” within the upcoming SheCOACH e-learning platform. We are also actively supporting the project’s dissemination efforts and contributing to the transnational strategy for gender equality in coaching.

In the first months, the SheCOACH team carried out national research in Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Spain to assess awareness and current practices related to gender issues in coaching education. L’ORMA supported this phase by contributing to the Italian national survey and interviews, engaging with coaches, educators, and stakeholders.

The results confirm the urgency to update coaching curricula, tackle stereotypes, and provide specialized training to support women in coaching roles. Italy’s findings revealed that over 60% of respondents identified institutional bias and lack of gender-sensitive content as major challenges. These outcomes will guide the development of our shared Capacity Building Programme, soon to be offered online and freely accessible to educators and coaches across Europe.

As we move forward, L’ORMA remains fully committed to building a coaching environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive and lead.

In European cooperation, we tend to follow a very familiar sequence. A funding opportunity appears. An idea starts taking shape. Potential partners are identified. A consortium is built. The proposal is submitted. And, if everything goes well, a project begins. There is nothing wrong with this process. It is how thousands of valuable European projects […]
