DESCRIPTION

“Sport Trainers Squared (STS)” is an Erasmus+ Sport project that uses physical activity and non-formal education to promote social inclusion and empowerment of migrants. The project focuses on equipping disadvantaged migrants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become sport instructors, while also training coaches to work effectively and inclusively with culturally diverse communities.

STS begins by conducting research to understand the challenges and needs of both migrants and sports coaches, ensuring the project responds to real-life situations. Based on this research, an educational curriculum is developed to help coaches learn how to engage with migrants using the “Education Through Sport” methodology. This curriculum is also adapted into an online course, making the training widely accessible.

At the same time, a training format for migrants is designed, giving them the opportunity to gain experience as sport instructors and to lead activities in their communities. Both pathways — for coaches and for migrants — are tested through national pilot programs in each partner country, creating meaningful interaction and measurable impact.

To share results and extend the project’s reach, STS organizes local and international events, including training sessions, evaluation meetings, and innovative outdoor activities that showcase non-formal learning techniques. By combining education, experiential training, and digital tools, the project empowers migrants to take on leadership roles in sport and supports coaches in creating inclusive, welcoming environments.

Sport Trainers Squared demonstrates how sport can break down social barriers, foster cultural understanding, and promote active citizenship. By building capacity among both coaches and migrants, the project creates a sustainable model of inclusion through sport that benefits individuals and communities across Europe.
