ToLERaNce – Capacity Building in South Africa

ToLERaNce is a 24-month Capacity Building project in the field of youth, involving six partner organizations from Africa (Senegal, Kenya, and South Africa), and Europe  (Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria). The project aims to improve the quality and recognition of youth workers/leaders in non-formal education. The project enhances intercultural dialogue and peace, reinforces youth empowerment, and promotes ToLERaNce through valuable tools and educational methodologies in Sport and Theatre.

From the 16th to the 30th of June, our partner organization SayPro (Southern Africa Youth Project), hosted a Job Shadowing. Its aim was to give youth workers insights into the various practical applications of Human Rights Education in South Africa.

How did we get involved?

Besides building capacity, one of the main goals of the project is the development of a Handbook that will include: research on the situation of tolerance in each of the partner’s countries, local good practices, and proposed sports and theatre activities. After our meeting and discussion we polished our activities to present them in two different centers on the following days:

Furthermore, we also involved in the daily work/activities of the educational institutions in different regions of the Johannesburg area. The organizations that we were lucky to collaborate with were:

Additionally, we attended a seminar at the Foundation for Human Rights SA. We were able to meet some amazing facilitators like Sara Motha and Hanif Vally. In short, they depicted the situation in South Africa and how so many people are deprived of basic capabilities and have their human rights unfulfilled.

Uhambo Arts and Theater Group also invited us to an inspiring and talented performance.  These young actors portrayed the real situation of human rights in Africa from their personal point of view.

To conclude, we want to say it was an amazing experience and from here we thank our partners for making this possible!
