The European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) officially concluded with its Final Event held on 24 April 2026 in Madrid, Spain, hosted at the headquarters of the Consejo Superior de Deportes. The event represented the final milestone of a year-long European cooperation initiative dedicated to promoting winter sport participation, inclusion, and cross-border collaboration.
Partners and stakeholders from across Europe gathered to reflect on the achievements of the 2026 edition, exchange strategic insights, and reaffirm a shared commitment to making sport more accessible and inclusive for all citizens.
A broad European partnership for winter sport development
The closing event brought together a diverse network of institutions, organisations, educational centres, municipalities, and sport facilities. Participants included the Comité Olímpico Español, the FEEC, España se Mueve, as well as regional and local authorities such as the Diputación de León, the Ayuntamiento de Granada, and the Ayuntamiento de Jaca.
Emergency and civil protection services were also represented, including Protección Civil de León, alongside educational partners such as Colegio Maristas Chamberí, Colegio El Catón, Colegio Arcipreste de Hita, and Salesianos Cruces.
The event further included representatives from key winter sport destinations and facilities, such as Estación de Esquí de Sierra Nevada, Estación de Esquí de San Isidro, and Rasos de Peguera, reinforcing the strong connection between sport development, territories, and local communities.
Reflection, impact, and future perspectives
Throughout the event, participants engaged in strategic discussions focusing on the outcomes of EWWS 2026, highlighting the importance of cooperation between institutions, schools, sport organisations, and public authorities at European level.
Key achievements of the initiative were presented, along with testimonials from partners who contributed to its implementation. The discussions underlined the value of long-term collaboration and the need to continue developing sustainable frameworks for winter sport participation across Europe.
