From 2 to 10 June 2026, three participants from Italy had the opportunity to take part in the international training course – Guiding Change: From Uncertainty to Growth, organized by VIA CIVIC Association in Dobrinishte, Bulgaria.
Representing Italy were a participant from L’ORMA, another from L’ORMA International, and one volunteer from Coach di Quartiere, one of L’ORMA’s flagship projects dedicated to using sport as a tool for inclusion, education and community development.
The training brought together youth workers, facilitators, trainers and educators from across Europe to explore one of the most relevant challenges facing young people today: how to navigate change, uncertainty and important life decisions in an increasingly complex world.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in an intensive experiential learning journey based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), personal reflection and peer learning. We explored change as a process that can result in development, learning, and new opportunities rather than as something to be avoided through interactive seminars, outdoor activities, group discussions, and hands-on exercises.
One of the most valuable aspects of the training was the opportunity to experience the methodology firsthand. Rather than focusing only on theory, the programme encouraged participants to reflect on their own experiences with change, helping us better understand the emotions, needs and challenges that young people often face during periods of transition.
The natural environment of the Pirin Mountains provided a unique setting for learning. Many activities took place outdoors, creating space for reflection, connection and meaningful conversations among participants from different countries and backgrounds. These shared experiences helped build a strong sense of trust and community that enriched the learning process.
As professionals and volunteers working daily with young people through educational, community and sport-based initiatives, we return home with new tools, perspectives and methods that can be integrated into our local activities. The concepts of empathy, active listening, needs-based communication and creating safe environments for growth are particularly relevant for the work carried out by L’ORMA.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to VIA CIVIC Association for the excellent organization of the training course and for creating such a welcoming and inspiring learning environment. A special thank you goes to trainer Nikola Dimov, Silvia Teneva, and Radoslava for their professionalism, expertise and ability to guide participants through a meaningful personal and professional learning journey.
Finally, we would like to thank all the participants who contributed their experiences, ideas and energy throughout the week. The connections created during these days are a powerful reminder that learning happens not only through activities and workshops, but also through the people we meet along the way.
We look forward to bringing these insights into our future work and continuing to support young people in embracing change with confidence, resilience and curiosity.
