The Wall is Yours – Youth Expression through Participatory Urban Art (Mine, Yours, Our Wall) aims to empower young people to reimagine and transform school walls and public spaces through participatory urban art, fostering active citizenship, a sense of belonging, and social inclusion. The project responds to the growing disconnect between young people and the environments that surround them, where schoolyards and public spaces often fail to reflect the identities, voices, and aspirations of the youth who use them every day.
Through a combination of co-creation workshops, storytelling activities, and mural-making processes, the project will provide children and young people aged 10–18 with meaningful opportunities to express themselves creatively and actively contribute to the design of their communities. Particular attention will be given to disadvantaged and underrepresented groups, including girls and young people with disabilities, ensuring that all participants have equal opportunities to shape and influence their environments.
The project also seeks to promote social inclusion, gender equality, and community engagement by developing replicable methodologies for youth-centred space transformation. Through collaboration between schools, local authorities, artists, and community stakeholders, the initiative will transform underused spaces into vibrant, inclusive, and meaningful places that strengthen social cohesion and encourage participation in cultural life.
Ultimately, Mine, Yours, Our Wall aims to create a sustainable European model for participatory urban art and youth engagement. Through exhibitions, an online gallery, a practical guide, and transnational exchange of practices, the project will ensure that its methodologies and results can be replicated across Europe, contributing to more inclusive, creative, and youth-friendly communities.
