The “Bet on Sport” project tackles the growing issue of gambling addiction, particularly sports betting, by leveraging the physical and mental health benefits of sport and physical activity. Implemented in Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Finland, Italy, and Turkey, the project aims to:
Train at least 200 professionals from the health, addiction, and sports sectors to collaboratively design and apply sport-based recovery programmes.
Develop and pilot a cooperation protocol across the 7 countries to guide these interventions.
Raise awareness among at least 400 professionals and stakeholders.
Ensure access for at least 100 individuals struggling with gambling addiction to tailored physical activity programmes.
The approach is innovative in its cross-sectoral collaboration, using sport not merely for prevention but as an adjunct therapeutic tool for recovery.
